Just a couple of BESTIES who decided to turn our passion for crafts into a small business so that we can share our beautiful creations with the world.

Crystal is a Korean adoptee raised in Minneapolis and now lives there with her four adorable kitties and her husband. She has spent years perfecting the art of teeny tiny origami and has painstakingly created all of the earrings you see on our website.

Andrea is a queer woman who left Minneapolis in 2021 and is now living her dreams in the mountains of North Carolina. She has two dogs (and is hoping to adopt more someday!) and spends her time managing the marketing, shipping, and business side of the company.

Our story

It all began with a joke. Andrea and Crystal were driving around Minneapolis one fall several years ago. Andrea saw something unexpected out of the corner of her eye, but she was driving and couldn’t slow down to confirm what exactly she saw. She thought it was a turkey, but the middle of a parking lot in the middle of the city was a very strange place for a turkey and the surprise of it made her forget what they’re called. In an effort to explain to Crystal what she was looking at, she exclaimed, “It’s a…an ugly peacock!” This became one of our favorite memories together. So when we decided to start our business, we knew exactly what to call it.

The Ugly Peacock is a name that reminds us of our sense of humor and of finding strange and whimsical things in the most unexpected places.
